Protection for the middle bushing of the gear linkage

The gear linkage supports it self through a bushing in a housing attached on the frame half way from front to back. This housing in a syncro is protected from water and mud, so as the grease does not dry out. A plastic pipe with some rubber seals does the job. In the picture here you can see the plastic pipe, but the rubber seal is gone with the years.

The problem is that the rubber seal is not to be found from VW or any other manufacturers. So most people do some trick to seal it again. What I did is to take out the plastic pipe, clean it, and then attach the same rubber that is used far on the rear of the gear linkage to seal the other bushing. You can see the end result.

And finally back in place sealed and ready for action!
